The Arrow Maker

How do youth survive in a world changing faster than they can imagine? Growing up Musqueam in the age of clashing civilizations shaped Tse’mu in the same way that he shaped the arrows in his hand. Guided by the wisdom of his grandfather, tribal elders, and the world around him, he embraces the resiliency and knowledge needed to navigate clashes with the Haida, encounters with Russian, British, Spanish, and American traders, and new teachings from missionaries who recorded his oral stories with markings on their white leaves. The world of the salmon, bear, deer, and raven, informed his heart on the Creator as he matures to become the new chief of his people. How can he guide others into a world he has never experienced before?

J.T. Alexander uses powerful imagery and imagination, combined with strong research, to bring history, faith, and insight to life. His stories embrace the depths of human character and attempt to find the story behind the story. His twenty years of international experience, combined with twenty-five years of leadership in faith communities, his curiosity about history, and his love of humanity, inform what he writes. His almost fifty years of marriage has provided support through thirty books on many different scenarios. The author has always had a great way with story-telling and this was no disappointment. The characters are well-developed and I felt as if I knew each of them as I read along. He describes the people and places with just the right amount of attention to detail. The pictures he draws with words are amazing and take me back to a different time in life...

"Great Read. I loved this young woman's story of how she is searching for herself, romance, and her lost faith in God. As Katie reads her journals -- this happens throughout the book -- I could get a wonderful visual of life in Kenya. Throw in some mystery and intrigue and this book is a must read!"

" Thought provoking and memory inducing....
Even if you never lived in Africa, this is a great read. If you had the privilege of going to school at Rift Valley Academy it is a fantastic memory tickler. A whole lot of story is jammed into the pages of this novel."
